Amal Kumar Samadder

AK Samadder was the key person who established the offshore geotechniques division of GSI which encompassed entire baseline data generation for development of an offshore facility: viz. Bathymetry, sea bed imaging, sediment sampling, ocenanographic measurements, nearshore drilling and geotechnical analysis. During his career in GSI spanning three decades, he was the chief scientist for major projects- Development of a tidal power project in the Sundurbans of West Bengal; Pilot studies for development of Ennore Port, offshore Geotechnicla studies for Beach restoration project in Puduchery, Delineation of the areas of accretion and erosion along the major creeks of Sundarbans and the coast of West Bengal-Orissa;. Geotechnical work for a single buoy mooring system for an offshore oil terminal in the Kolkata Port; Geotechnical work for the proposed extension of the naval jetty at Haddo (Port Blair) etc, among the forty offshore projects in which he worked as a team member. During the early phase of his career, he was involved in terrestrial geology Projects viz. : Basemetal investigation in Rorathang & Rangli areas of East Sikkim, Danak khola, East Sikkim; preliminary assessment of sillimanite mineralization in Pelling-Dentam- Uttare- Chitre areas of West Sikkim; .Geological and geomorphologic mapping of laterite in parts of Midnapur district of West Bengal. Geological mapping in the high altitude areas of eastern Himalayas on expedition basis in Yuksum-Dzongro- Thansing areas of West Sikkim; Tashiding- Lapdong-Maidong La- karsang areas of West Sikkimand Toulung-Thijom- Kishong of north Sikkim.
